I'm asking is drawing design inspiration from multiple sources and a little imagination from your own side and customizing it in particular to solve your own problems the safe area??

The easy answer is "Yes that's the safe area". Although I should add that you should be able to properly document and defend your design decisions.
How does your inspired design fit into the overall solution?
Also how much of a direct copy is it? Are you making a git clone of the layout and just changing the name and date? 🌚💀
Or are you drawing inspiration and applying your understanding of principles you have learnt/read about.
Being able to answer this should sorta help in guiding you.
